If Mr. Ting were here with us today, he will never
agree to let us name this building using his name.
To him, this would have been unthinkable.

　　When our colleagues approached me and
proposed to dedicate this building under his name, I accepted because he was no longer with us.
I thought that this would remind me and our
colleagues of the way Mr. Ting do things and the
love and commitment he had to Vietnam and to its
people. Mr. Ting has always considered Ho Chi Minh City as his second homeland. For the last 15 years, he has spent more than 1/3 of his time in Ho Chi Minh City.

　　Central Trading & Development Corporation came to Vietnam 15 years ago. Since January of 1991, Mr. Ting and I have come to Vietnam on a monthly basis to conduct explorations and implementations of our projects here. We walked through fields, crossed the rivers, went to the west, to the north, to the east before finally deciding to conduct our development works in the south of Vietnam. All his plans are geared towards changing the current situation and to bring opportunities to the people of Vietnam. For example: the Kien Giang Plantation aims to change the quality of the acidic soil which has never grown any plants in four hundred years; the Tan Thuan Export Processing Zone created more than tens of thousands of employment opportunities; the Hiep Phuoc Power Plant provides electricity to Ho Chi Minh City. The Saigon South Urban Development Project creates an ideal living environment. He had visions and his focus had been on what would bring the greatest happiness and welfare to Vietnam and its people. He was a perfectionist, a perfectionist who used better methods to do what we need to do today. I remember that during the initial development stages of Tan Thuan Export Processing Zone, Mr. Ting wanted to adopt a new construction method to pave the roads inside the TTZ compound. Instead of the traditional method of paving thick red soil, he used the grading and sand method. At that time, a lot of people did not appreciate this method and thought that he was just saving on cost and sacrificing the quality. Results showed that the new construction method is not only useful but has also led to substantial savings in red soil and diminish destruction of the environment. It was through this process that we established mutual trust with our partners in Vietnam.

　　I always thought that Mr. Ting is a public servant who is here to serve the masses. He had always adopted a professional attitude towards his work. We need the support of the Vietnamese government and many of his Vietnamese friends to fulfill his plans. He worked hard, made sacrifices, and made contributions, because he knew these projects would have a great impact on these people. His concern and love are the greatest attributes of his life.

　　Mr. Ting is no longer with us. We dedicate this building under his name to commemorate him. I hope that we could unite together and complete what he has aimed to achieve and what he sought to pursue. Not only for him, but for Vietnam and its people. In closing, I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to Vietnam and to the Vietnamese people whom Mr. Ting loved so dearly.
