Excerpts of Speech of Lieutenant General John K. Young:

  • I stand here with very mixed feelings today; one of joy, for the Academy is very pleased to award the Academy Color to an alumnus who contributed tremendously to the Academy; the other of sorrow, for the passing away of fellow alumnus Lawrence S. Ting. This is the first time in 80 years that the Academy awarded two Academy Color to the same person. (The first covered the urn at his memorial service). This is the highest honor from the Academy, representing our most sincere appreciation for all that Mr. Ting has done.
  • After showing clips from his memorial service, I made the following speech at the Academy Weekly Meeting: There are a few people who had great influence in the history of the Academy. The first person is Dr. Sun Yat Sen. He established the country, and established the Academy. The 2nd is General Sung Yuan Liang. Other than these two people, Lawrence S. Ting showed his commitment to the Academy through his actions. He was the Chairman of the Alumni Association for 15 years. He set up scholarships for foreign language studies and the study of the Art of War by Sun-Tze. I am proud to announce that the Academy won the 2004 Good English Environment Award.
  • Mr. Ting was an excellent student, an elite in the business community, and a real example for all of us at the Academy.

Excerpts of Speech of Mr. Hu Chia-Chi

  • This is a meaningful location to hold this dignified service. It is here that Mr. Ting and Mr. Tsien started Central Trading & Development Corporation, where they worked hand-in-hand on the investments in Vietnam. I was the ambassador to Vietnam for four years. Mr. Ting and Mr. Tsien's achievements and contributions to Vietnam's economic development have impressed me immeasurably. I have faith that all of you at CT&D will continue to accomplish the goals Mr. Ting has set out to achieve.
  • Former Premier General Hao Pei-Tsun once praised Mr. Lawrence S. Ting to be an elite leader in the business world. His vision and accurate foresight led to extraordinary achievements.
