Remember Lawrence Ting
To hear the passing away of Lawrence Ting was a shock to all. I have always known him as a man of strong character, good integrity and a hard-working person throughout these years' acquaintance. I knew him for so long and have always looked upon him as a perfect gentleman. I continue to hold this view on this friend of mine who has departed.
I knew him since his days when he worked hard as Vice Commissioner of the ROC Olympic Committee. He worked hard on that job and dedicated himself in serving the country well on a very challenging and difficult task.
Along these years he was also most devoted to the Columbia University Alumni Association and was definitively a major force in organizing and driving this Club. Throughout these years his dedication had made it one of the most successful Alumni Clubs in Taiwan. All the Columbia alumni will surely miss his presence and contributions.
I also recall the difficult job he was assigned to help promote our relationships with Vietnam by leading to build the successful export processing zone. From our view it is indeed not an easy job for such a pioneer like him to construct from nothing and nowhere a prosperous dynamic growing industrial park and thus strengthened our ties with Vietnam.
Personally I would like to express very sincerely that I cannot think of anything bad against him, except all the goodness. It is sad to have him depart at such a young age and we shall all miss him and remember him as a truly good person and that his early departure is gravely missed. We pray for him and his family for such a tragic loss. I remain,
Sincerely,
